Do Yoga If: You Are Human and It Is Any Season of the Year
I am supposed to be sitting here writing on behalf on International Yoga Day or the Solstice or how June is Men’s Health month… But if I have to sit here and write about why “men” should do yoga or how today there are people doing yoga all over the world than there is something wrong with this picture. While there are certain health benefits that men might not know about, specifically the benefits for prostate health, weight loss or cardiovascular function, the reason each of us goes to yoga is our own.
Today I was talking with a student about how yoga doesn’t solve your problems, you do that. Yoga is simply a toolkit for getting through life, when difficult and uncomfortable things arise how do we react? Deep breath, mulabandha, focus your eyes, smile. The truth is, I don’t really care WHY you do yoga. I care about how deeply it fills your heart with questions and answers, success and failure, love and trust. For example, if you need to lose weight and you start to come to yoga 2-3 times a week, chances are you will start to lose weight. Or if you tend to feel depressed or sluggish in the morning and you add a 7 am yoga class in 2-3 times a week you may find the days feeling brighter and the body a bit lighter. Maybe you just want to gain a little upper body or core strength, add in a few classes and see what happens.
This is a welcome to anyone “thinking about” trying yoga… We have classes 7 days a week, as early as 7 am and as late as 7:15 pm. If you are nervous about a class schedule a consultation or private session beforehand. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, ever. Remember, yoga will not change your life, you’re going to do that, yoga helps.
And just for shits and giggles, here are some photos of men doing yoga…
