This month I am featuring some students from our youth classes. A huge thanks to Hunter, Meala and Bethany for sharing their experiences with yoga. All three students live in Montpelier and come to a weekly class at Grateful Yoga. These kids are so supportive of each other, they inspire, laugh and create so much energy each class. Please enjoy their words of wisdom below, namaste.
How does yoga make you feel?
M: It takes balance, so it feels very balanced.
B: Very good; comfortable and peaceful. Especially Sun Salutations and Savasana.
H: At the end it feels really quiet.
Are there any challenging poses you like to practice? And how do you approach a challenging posture?
H: Partner poses. I would rather be by myself in a pose than with a partner. This isn’t about yoga, but me and Meala are brother and sister!
B: Crow is challenging. It’s really hard to find the balance. Don’t hold your breath, breathing helps.
M: The crow, you should just practice a lot. It is kind of scary when you do your first bridge kickover, but just practice a lot, it’s fun!
Do you practice anywhere besides the studio?
B: I practice at home with my mom.
M: I have a lot of after school activities (ballet, basketball, soccer) so I don’t have a ton of time for yoga outside of class, but at home I show my mom the postures we learned at class.
How did you feel the first time you went to yoga class?
M: I thought it was fun!
B: Absolutely nervous.
H: Excited and nervous. I didn’t know what we were going to do because I had never been to yoga before. Now I’m not scared to go, and I’ve met lots of new people in class.
What would you Tell someone who has never been to yoga before?
H: Don’t worry it’s really fun.
B: You shouldn’t be nervous, it’s just a fun, good experience. I think the only thing you should be is EXCITED.
